Women deserved winWednesday, 15 April 2009 07:03 Bunbury United 1, Dunsborough Towners 0 View Photos From This GameOn a black day for the Dunsborough Towners, in which all three senior teams lost, the one bright spot was the performance of the women’s team who dominated Bunbury United from the start only to lose in the second last minute of the game with the only shot on goal Bunbury had in the second half. It was a heart-breaking loss but it was a performance that suggests that better times could be round the corner for a club that had lost six players in the summer recess. Time and again the Towners found themselves pressing into Bunbury’s penalty area but were unable to get the last touch to find the net. There appeared little danger to the defence in which newcomer Belinda Perna was a tower of strength backed up by Anna McBride and Emma Olsen while “Player of the Match” Joe Schleuter with Jules Olsen controlled the midfield. The previous season the women’s team was always in it until the last few minutes when they conceded important goals to the opposition. That habit seems to have flowed over to the opening round of the 2009 season. They certainly didn’t deserve to lose. |
