Missed opportunities cost DunsboroughThursday, 23 April 2009 10:09 Dunsborough 1 (Schleuter), Collie 1 Match Photos: Click Here A lack of a finishing touch cost the Dunsborough Towners women’s Premier League side valuable points once again when they drew 1-1 with Collie in Collie on Sunday. For the second match in a row the Towneres dominated for long periods playing a well balanced style of football until the moment when seeking goals. They deserved the three points against Bunbury in the opening round if possession means anything and it was a similar patter against Collie. Defensively they were well lead by Belinda Perna and it was significant that she was up field adding to the pressure when the Towners were caught on the counter attack. In the 57th minute Collie broke away swept right allowing them to score on acute angle just inside the near post. In reality it was against the run of play. In fact Dunsborough should have been ahead in the sixth minute when they were awarded a penalty only for the normally reliable Emma Olsen to hit her shot too close to the goalkeeper allowing her to parry. The ball ran free only to make a second courageous save to Olsen’s follow up. It was the Collie goalkeeper that made the difference with a series of saves and timely interceptions that frustrated the Towners push for victory. It was with relief in the 72nd minute that midfielder Joey Schleuter latched on to a loose ball, ran forward and hammered home a shot that gave the goalkeeper no chance and demonstrated the value of power when going for goal. New coach Martyn Mulley has the team working well but needs to find a focal point to his attack that has instinct for goals. Bootleg Brewery Player of the Match; Emma Olsen
